Torbreck Wines Take Over The Vic: A Four-Hour Lunch Worth Clearing Your Calendar For

If your ideal Saturday involves top-notch wine, a bit of insider knowledge, and a long lunch that doesn’t rush you out the door, then The Vic Hotel in Footscray is pouring exactly what you’re after.

On Saturday 17th May, from 12pm to 4pm, the pub will host a Torbreck Long Lunch Club, an extended sit-down featuring seven wines from Barossa heavyweight Torbreck, matched to a four-course menu crafted for the occasion.

For $150pp, the afternoon promises far more than a pour-and-go tasting. Ben Yoffa, Torbreck’s national sales manager and all-round grape guru, will host a guided session through each drop—sharing stories, context and the kind of behind-the-scenes gems you don’t get by reading the back label.

The wines are serious business. We’re talking rare back vintages and reds poured from magnums, with matched dishes designed by The Vic’s kitchen to bring out the best in both food and drink. The menu’s still under wraps (the tease is strong), but if past long lunches at the Vic are anything to go by, expect well-sourced produce and smart, seasonal cooking.

There are added perks for the collectors among us. Exclusive cellar door pricing will be available on the day, and anyone who buys a case goes in the draw to win a signed magnum from the winemaker. The sort of prize that turns up once in a blue moon and looks particularly handsome in a home cellar—or shown off on your bar cart.

The Vic Hotel has been making some serious noise lately with events that manage to feel both intimate and expertly pulled together. Tucked in the heart of Footscray’s growing dining scene, it’s a reminder that some of Melbourne’s most exciting wine events aren’t happening in the CBD, but in places where community and a good pour go hand in hand.
