This Limited Messina Collab Is Big on Chocolate and Bigger on Purpose
Winter’s unofficial dessert has landed, and yes, it’s dangerously good. Gelato Messina has given its beloved bake-at-home cookie pie a chocolate-loaded revamp, teaming up with none other than Tony’s Chocolonely, the Dutch disruptors known for chunky bars, loud wrappers and a serious stance on fair trade.

The result is everything you’d want from a cold-night treat. A golden crust, a gooey centre, and solid pieces of Tony’s milk and dark chocolate folded right through. The sort of thing you casually bake “for guests” and end up eating with a spoon straight from the tray.
Messina’s cookie pies first dropped in 2021 and have since become a bit of a Melbourne pantry essential. This latest edition is the first time they’ve reimagined the original recipe with a new chocolate, and it’s more than a flavour upgrade. Tony’s isn’t just along for the ride, they’re here to shake up the chocolate industry, with a mission to eliminate exploitation in the cocoa trade by paying farmers fairly and keeping supply chains transparent.
If you’re keen to join the cause and eat your way through it, the limited-edition cookie pie is available now for $25 through all Messina stores and online. You can also bundle it up with gelato tubs in 500ml, 1L or 1.5L sizes, depending on how heavy your hibernation plans are.
For those who prefer immediate gratification, there’s a single-serve version too. Every Monday to Thursday from 5pm, Messina is serving warm cookie pies in-store, topped with a scoop of gelato, for $12. They're available at all locations except Circular Quay and The Star.
To match, Messina has also launched a limited-edition gelato flavour: Brownie Points. Salted milk chocolate gelato, rivers of caramel, and Tony’s double chocolate brownie chunks mixed through. It’s available from 12 July until it disappears, which won’t take long.
This is comfort with a conscience. A collaboration that brings the fun of dessert together with a bigger purpose. And let’s be honest, anything that justifies eating half a cookie pie straight from the tin deserves a place in the weekly rotation.
