The Long Table on Tour Kicks Off in the Macedon Ranges

1 / 4

Picture this: a long table stretched out in the midst of a vineyard, laden with food so good it almost feels indulgent, a view that steals your breath, and a glass of local wine that perfectly complements each bite. Welcome to The Long Table on Tour, the brainchild of Holli Massey and Sophia Davey, debuting on November 23, 2024, at the scenic Wilimee Wines in the Macedon Ranges. This isn’t just another outdoor dining experience – it’s an invitation to connect, explore, and, yes, eat very, very well.

Here’s what makes this event stand out in a world of pop-up dining: it’s the slow dance between gastronomy and nature, curated by Michelin-trained and locally-celebrated chefs, with each detail orchestrated to linger in your memory long after the last bite.

The menu, helmed by hatted chef Rob Kabboord, brings together a culinary team with range and finesse. Kabboord teams up with Yonatan Rotner, a Michelin-trained chef from the Basque Country, and Hind Boughedaoui, known for her vibrant vegetarian creations. And they’re all about celebrating what’s close to home, using organic produce with an eco-conscious twist – think local carrots, high-altitude Chardonnay, and an underwater-aged Pinot Noir that defies conventional ageing. Yes, the wine’s had a bit of an aquatic adventure, just for you.

In Kabboord's own words, “There’s something romantic about sitting in a vineyard, drinking the wine from that vineyard, and eating food that’s grown and raised locally.” His dedication to crafting dishes that align with the vineyard’s unique profile is clear. Expect to start with delicate bites like oysters with mandarin oil and dill cream blinis, while a central fire pit anchors the main event: roasted lamb shoulder on white beans, with poached trout and a hearty bowl of Vichyssoise carrots – ideal for sharing with newfound friends.

But it’s not just about the food. Beyond the plates, The Long Table on Tour offers a sensory experience – vineyard tours with winemaker Ben Ranken, music inspired by nature (think folk by Jessie Monk), and even sound healing in a dome. Yes, there’s also croquet and poetry, just in case you needed another reason to roam.

As the founders put it, this gathering is about more than just “feeding” guests. It’s a chance to savour time, connect with others, and enjoy a slice of life that’s too good to keep indoors. The Macedon Ranges is just the start; this duo has big plans to take this experience global, from local vineyards to European landscapes, each table as thoughtful and intentional as the last.
