Sexy Japanese Restaurant Katori Opens In Box Hill

Tucked away on the ground floor of boutique Art Series Hotel, The Chen in Box Hill is where you will find Katori. A high-end Japanese restaurant ready to blow diners away with an elegant menu of Japanese finesse and a fiery charcoal grill at the centre of each table.

Interior design studio Melissa Collison is responsible for the sexy fit out; slick black-on-black textures provide the perfect backdrop for a smokey evening with warm glowing lighting that reveals some finer details of the space. Black leather booths anchored together by some mesmerising amber pendant lights by Tom Dixon seem to be the cosiest of tables in the restaurant but if you’re after some more privacy, the private dining room is where you should be booking.

The kitchen team is solid, with former chefs of Nobu and Saké who have designed a menu that is centred around wagyu beef and other Japanese dishes, taken to the next level with premium ingredients such as gold leaf, caviar and foie gras.

The $118pp Katori Signature Tasting Menu features a truffle fumed edamame, a 12 cut sashimi plate, aburi wagyu sushi with caviar, deep-fried wagyu meatball with gold before your table is transformed for the Japanese BBQ. A 180g MB9+ yakiniku platter is then served and cooked at your table — we had the staff cook for us but I’m sure you can also DIY if you wish. Enjoy it with a side of komi nori green salad and some foie gras truffle rice before finishing off with a dessert of water cake, matcha ice-cream and cotton candy.

There have been so many Japanese restaurants opening recently, to our delight. Katori is another to add to your list, a great addition to the Eastern suburbs.
