Guy Grossi Joins Forces with Bar Bianco to Bring Liguria to Hawksburn
If you live anywhere south of the river, this one’s worth paying attention to. After more than twenty years, Guy Grossi is finally bringing his signature touch back to the southside. Teaming up with Bar Bianco in Hawksburn Village, Grossi and the crew have launched a new menu that’s a tribute to Liguria – the coastal region in northern Italy that gave us pesto, focaccia and a deep love of seafood done right.
Bar Bianco
This isn’t a full takeover, but it is a noticeable shift. From Tuesday to Friday evenings, and all day on Fridays and Saturdays, Bar Bianco is now serving a reimagined menu designed in collaboration with Grossi and Head Chef Matteo Porino, who happens to be Ligurian himself. Also worth noting – Porino’s resume includes time in Michelin-starred kitchens, so yes, he knows his way around a rigatoni.
The new dishes include half-shell scallops in almond crust, cured kingfish with bay leaf oil, pickled onion and pine nuts, a rich slow-cooked lamb ragu with rigatoni, and a cannoli that leans Ligurian with ricotta, amaretti and olive oil. The whole thing is paired with a sharp little wine list and the familiar Bar Bianco lineup of cocktails and Italian spritzes.
For locals, this is less about pomp and more about rhythm. You can drop in for a snack and a glass, or settle in for a full dinner with friends. The vibe is designed to be repeatable – a place you actually want to come back to midweek. Grossi calls it “an extension of home,” and honestly, he’s not wrong.
Tim Gurner, who founded Bar Bianco under the Gurner Group banner, says the collaboration was about alignment. “Bar Bianco was always intended to feel like a neighbourhood spot,” he says. “Working with Guy Grossi, someone who really understands hospitality and tradition, just makes sense for what we’re building here.”
Dinner runs from 5pm Tuesday to Friday. Friday and Saturday also offer lunch service. Walk-ins are welcome, but bookings are open for those who like to plan ahead.
