Breakfast, Sandwiches & Aperitivo at Greta - A European Bar
Melbourne's current obsession with sandwiches shows no signs of slowing down. Brother and sister duo Adam and Elisa Mariani who brought us Mayday Coffee and Food and Maverick have opened a European bar in the CBD.
Place mentioned
Greta
Greta has been in the making since pre-COVID. After all of Victoria’s efforts in containing the pandemic, Greta has finally come to life, adding spark to a reviving city centre.
The interior by Chris Connell is timeless, with straight lines, olive and mustard tones with brown leather and brass accents. It’s very European and even has a ‘standing room’ area where you can wait for your takeaway coffee or down an espresso like they do in Italy.
The ‘can’t-go-wrong’ menu is well thought out with a selection of breakfast, sandwiches and aperitivo plates. Baked eggs in tomato sugo, a melty, cheesy toasty or a crunchy porchetta and radicchio roll are just a few of the highlights. And for a Friday evenings, they’re open ’til seven and you can indulge in some tinned fish or the daily charcuterie plate.
Specialty coffee by Axil Coffee Roasters. Stiff cocktails. A wine list selected featuring 19 bottles which regions span local, French and Italian.
Popping in for breakfast, grabbing a sandwich to go or dining in for a few hours with drinks and nibbles, Greta is just the European bar Melbourne needs right now
