A Collaboration Rooted in Friendship
Scheduled for Thursday, 5th September, this collaboration brings together Tasia and Gracia Seger, the sisters behind Makan and winners of My Kitchen Rules, with Michael Weldon, a former MasterChef finalist. The event, titled Aussie Favourites, Indonesian Flavours, will showcase the chefs' shared passion for home-style cooking, drawing inspiration from the dishes they loved as children.
A Playful, Nostalgic Menu
The menu is a playful homage to childhood favourites, reimagined with a twist. Diners will start their experience with Keju crackers and Vegemite Sambal, a clever fusion that sets the tone for the evening. This will be followed by Batagor Dim Sims with a rich peanut dressing and Beef Rendang meat pies, offering hearty, flavourful bites.
The menu continues with Urutan sausage sandwiches, a nod to the classic Aussie snag, but with a Balinese twist. For the main courses, guests will enjoy Gohu fish and chips, Kangaroo satay, and the highlight of the evening: a Babi Guling Sunday Roast. This dish, a Balinese speciality, is paired with Indonesian Charcoal Chicken and a variety of sides, creating a cross-cultural feast.
Dessert will be a nostalgic treat with a tropical flair—fairy bread reimagined with brown butter ice cream and Sri Kaya jam.
The Chefs and Their Vision
Tasia and Gracia Seger have been making a name for themselves since their victory on My Kitchen Rules in 2016. Their restaurant, Makan, which opened in 2018, reflects their Indonesian heritage and passion for sharing these flavours with an Australian audience.
Michael Weldon, known for his appearances on MasterChef and Farm to Fork, focuses on sustainability and locally sourced produce. His friendship with the Seger sisters, formed through various industry events, has led to this exciting collaboration.
An Evening to Remember
This special dinner is more than just a meal—it’s a celebration of diverse culinary influences. The event will also offer an optional beverage pairing, including a cocktail on arrival and a selection of wines, such as the 2023 Harrison X Weldon Picpoul, which pairs beautifully with the evening’s dishes.
The Aussie Favourites, Indonesian Flavours dining experience at Makan is set for Thursday, 5th September, at 6pm. With a set menu priced at $120 per person and an optional beverage pairing for $60, this event promises to be a memorable evening of food, culture, and creativity.
